Park Terrace Duplex

The apartment is a penthouse duplex with a private terrace overlooking Park Terrace Gardens in Inwood. Both bathrooms and the kitchen underwent a gut renovation. The original wood floors were refinished, and new colors were introduced throughout the living room, dining room, bedrooms, and entry areas. Additionally, new furnishings were added to the dining room, and custom-designed and fabricated entry and primary closets were installed. All lighting and electrical was upgraded.

The kitchen layout was particularly challenging due to its narrow dimensions. To maximize space, a new two-drawer dishwasher was introduced, along with a wall-mounted kitchen faucet to reduce the depth of the lower cabinets and expand the working area.

A wall oven was added to alleviate the tightness of the kitchen layout. A new gas cooktop replaced a large stove, and flush pulls were installed to further open up the narrow working area and minimize hardware obstructions. A geometric backsplash was carefully selected, with warm yellow hexagons adorning the floor. Additionally, a small microwave is discreetly hidden behind an overhead door.

The girls' bathroom features wall tiles in a tone that complements the kitchen cabinets, accented by artistic wallpaper. Additional wall niches were created to maximize storage space. The old in-wall hamper was replaced with a new one, preserving a feature that the clients particularly loved about the bathroom. Gunmetal finishes on the plumbing fixtures add both durability and longevity to the bathroom's most frequently used elements.

Unfortunately, the footprint of the primary bathroom had to remain unchanged. To enhance the space, a fun hexagonal tile was chosen for the shower area and floor, balanced by subtle white ceramic tiles on the other walls. Brass finishes were added to provide a modern and elegant touch. Wall niches in the shower and behind the vanity faucet offer additional storage in this compact bathroom.

The entry closet was completely redesigned to meet the storage needs of the entire family. It matches the kitchen in both color and hardware, as it is adjacent to that space. A special niche for hanging coats was created by repurposing a deep pantry on the opposite side.

This project was particularly enjoyable because the clients embraced color, texture, and creative solutions for their storage and living needs without hesitation.
